PodCast For The Troops- Wes and Victoria
Posted on April 26th, 2008 at 10:59 pm by Wes

We have been added to a podcast for the troops by VikingRadio.com, one of our newest radio additions for THE BALLAD OF BILLY SAIGON. This is a cool streaming network that is working hard to get indie music of all types out into the world. You can find them on our new RADIO-CLICK HERE page!

Go check them out. Check out the podcast by clicking on this LINK(CLICK HERE).We know passions and opinions run high about the war, but lets show these men and women some love and not make the same mistakes we made 35 years ago in our treatment of men and women who serve their country. In the US we have an election coming up soon, so we all get the freedom of expressing our desired direction in the voting booth, which we encourage everyone of voting age to do. And if there are any kids reading this blog, bug your parents and make sure they vote!!! In the meantime we can send some musical love out to folks a long way from home and in harm’s way.

Another Free MP3 from a gig- Wes & Victoria
Posted on April 19th, 2008 at 7:32 am by Wes

We thought we’d drop another tune out here into the cybervoid for any and all enthusiasts. This particular tune is a new one that we have not yet done any sort of studio recording on. I am always writing, and one of the nice things about these low-key coffeehouse type gigs is we can try out new tunes.

This particular tune has a working title of “Leaving Home”. It explores the idea (to the extent a 4 minute song can, I guess) of where home resides. Is it a place we live, or a place that lives in us? Both? Is it centered in our faith, or beliefs, or in those who populate the spaces of our lives? Lots of questions for a 4 minute song- and still there needs to be room for Victoria’s harmonica….

You can get it here at the the Babamuse site, along with others from that gig.

I am compelled to continue to plug for the new CD-A consistent theme in all posts these days

These gig MP3’s are free for the taking. Share them with Friends and fans of this type of music. Please put the word out about Wes and Victoria and send us mail at the link on this site. We’ll add you to our mailing list. If you let us know Venues in your area we will try and come out your way and do a live show if we can.

Here is the song LEAVE HOME

A Live MP3 from the latest gig- REUNION
Posted on April 10th, 2008 at 12:50 pm by Wes

So we played this little gig at a coffehouse_winebar up in Bonnie Brae last Saturday. We want to thank everyone who came out to hear us play and some of the new friends we made who stuck around after the wine tasting wrapped up. The place is called CapuVino and its got a cozy vibe to it. We were able to play a nice little 80-90 minute concert set of original tunes. We took a feed from the little console we played through and grabbed what has turned into some mp3 files.

This song is called Reunion. There is a fully produced version of it on The Ballad of Billy Saigon CD available at the link below. This song started as a songwriter’s exercise. I had read somewhere that a good challenge for writing was to write a song with a one word title, for example, the song by Willie Nelson made famous by Patsy Cline- “Crazy”.

So fishing around for ideas I started to write. Victoria and I are all about music that has at its heart a spirit of hope and redemption. I see no need at this point in my life to write songs commenting on the sad state of what humanity continues to get wrong as it shuffles towards its eventual evolution or demise, whichever way it goes. Certainly there are topics worth addressing, however even as I do attempt to write about such things I prefer to come from a place of Spirit. Whatever Spirit is…which I most definitely can’t define…and even if I could I would not be so inclined as to deny anyone else the opportunity for growth that comes with their own journey towards that definition.

So from that place in space we get the song REUNION. A song about the spark that jumps the gap between what we think we may be and that divinity that we quite possibly may have emanated from. Plus Victoria just plays the holy crap of the harmonica on this song, which is reason enough unto itself to always play it.

My amigo Paul Williams, a truly fine human and one of my dearest friends on the planet, has commented on how much he thinks of this song. You may know Paul from (as he puts it) his Smokey and the Bandit Art Film Trilogy, or the many amazing songs he has written in his Hall of Fame Songwriter career. He is one of the gifts to music that we have been given in the past number of years and knows his way around songs. If you get a chance to catch the musical production of HAPPY DAYS that is debuting at the Goodspeed Theatre in CT, don’t miss it. Except for the title song from the TV show he wrote all the tunes and they are spectacular. Really. They’ll blow you away.

Paul’s support of my songwriting and in particular this song has been so encouraging as I trudge through the years of obscurity that writing spirit oriented folk based material pretty much insures. Its as a bit of a thanks to him for his love and support that I post this song from this recent live gig.

I will be posting some more songs from this gig, and future gigs a we do them. You can also catch these over at the Babamuse site and specifically the Freebies page at this link here.

These are free for the taking. Share them with Friends and fans of this type of music. Please put the word out about Wes and Victoria and send us mail at the link on this site. We’ll add you to our mailing list. If you let us know Venues in your area we will try and come out your way and do a live show if we can.

More tunes coming soon
Posted on April 10th, 2008 at 10:02 am by Wes

Well, the CD continues to trickle out into the World, as it goes with most indie releases. Radio from such far away places as the Netherlands, Belarus and even California (we are in Colorado) have asked for airplay copies. Which are winging their way as fast and the various postal services involved will allow.

In the meantime we just played a little gig in the Bonnie Brae district of Denver, a great little hip vibe kinda area mid city. We took some recordings off the board and will have some mp3’s up for free consumption. That’ll be online in a few days at most. In the meantime, keep letting folks know we are out there and we’ll keep playing music full of heart and hope (just to be different!)
